Clay Success...?

I swear if I had a better camera this would look a lot better. This project definitely took the wind out of my sails though, I spent forever on it and all I want to do is slack off now...

I used polymer clay, modeling clay, yarn, felt, buttons, gouache, acrylic, bristol, cardboard, wire, and GLITTER!!

BROKEN: Part 1

So in my drawing class we're all doing this awesome and really cute assignment of 30 images done by the end of October that are 5x5 inches. I'm putting mine to a theme of broken things.

Did this one for my summer class.

Did this self portrait for my figure drawing class I took during the summer. The picture is really blurry because of my camera, I should really invest in a new one.

INLIGHT: Wearable Art Fashion Show and Competition: "Enlightened"

The Annual Wearable Art Fashion Show Competition in Richmond at First Fridays on West Broad Street.

The entire street was blocked off for this event.

The lovely Kaitlin DeMayo wore my outfit of a hot and sexy librarian / accidentally Cindy McCain, composed of a blouse and a pencil skirt with 27 light bulbs on the fabric, two on her high heels, and one huge bulb on top of her hair with a beehive wig. IT ROCKED!!

The fashion show has a theme every year, and the theme this year was "Illumination" and the number 30.

The blouse was the hardest part to make, I now sincerely see and respect anyone who can whip up anything on a sewing machine...and make it fit right, and I surely didn't make it fit too well.

My piece was titled "Enlightened"...because she's reading a book and becoming enlightened!! Well...I thought it was clever.

All in all, it was made out of...
~fabric, lace, buttons, fishnets, high heels
~battery powered Xmas lights and plastic ornaments
~a blond wig with a plastic container, glue, bobby pins, and a #2 yellow pencil
~a pearl necklace and cat-shaped eyeglasses
~a sketchbook with the batteries hidden inside

The competition was for a scholarship...24 other people participated. I didn't win, but I plan on winning next year."I'm Cindy McCain, and I disapprove of your liberal, half-naked fashion ways!!"

My piece was titled "Enlightened"...because she's a librarian reading a book and becoming enlightened by the bright idea in it...I thought it was clever, but I guess not.

This show was the most fun I've had in a long time.

Wearable Art Competitive Show

So I was accepted to do an outfit for the Wearable Art Show that's going to happen next First Friday. Here's my idea, it's blurry because I used my computer camera, my poor scanner is broken. So, the theme this year is 'Illumination' and the number 30. So, I'm doing an outfit that kind of looks like a librarian with 30 lighted light bulbs on her. The idea is that she's going to walk down the runway reading a book, at the end of the runway she will be 'enlightened' and all the lights will fade on.
